Artist Statement
Matthias Mann is an experimental photographer whose work engages with the overlooked and unseen. This interest manifested itself early on through explorations of found still lifes in nature—a style that eventually transformed into exploring other, less tangible environments through experimental techniques. Prominent in his work is the use of serialized subjects, finding the beauty in the endless, ever-changing forms of common objects, made apparent through their subtle differentiations. Rooted in his imagery and writing is a celebration and acknowledgement of the fragility of this moment—captured in the fleeting beauty of some artificial landscape, never able to be recreated, or the distorted, passing reflections of daily life.
